1. How to delete/remove component?

To remove a component from your project, select the component you want to delete, and press “Delete” or “Backspace” button.
Remember, that once you delete a component, you will no longer be able to globally edit its instances, as they will be converted to regular objects.

2. How to detach/break component?

There is no direct option to detach the main component in Figma, but there are some alternative ways to achieve it. Depending on your scenario, you can use the following steps:

  • If you've recently created the component and want to undo it, you can press "Command" + "Z" (on Mac) or "Ctrl" + "Z" (on Windows) to revert the creation.
  • If the component has been in your project for a while and you want to detach it while keeping its content, you can follow these steps:

  1. Duplicate the component to create an instance. You can do this by copying and pasting the component.
  2. Select the newly created instance and detach it by either pressing "Option" + "Command" + "B" (on Mac) or right-clicking on the instance and selecting "Detach Instance" from the context menu.

  4. Once the instance is detached, you can safely remove the main component by pressing the "Delete" or “Backspace” button.

3. How to add boolean property?

Boolean property added to components would allow you to control specific elements visibility across instances of that component. To create a boolean property for a component in Figma, follow the steps below:

  1. Choose an element within the component that you want to assign an attribute to. For example, you might select an icon that can be toggled on or off within a button component.
  2. After selecting the desired element (e.g., the icon), navigate to the right sidebar. In the "Layer" section, locate and click on the "Create boolean property" option.

  4. Once the boolean property is created, you can name it, for instance "Show Icon." In the same properties area, you can define whether the element should be visible by default ("True") or hidden ("False")

  6. When the boolean property is added to an element within the component, all instances of that component will include a toggle option to control the visibility of that element (e.g., the icon). To hide the icon, set the toggle to off.

To export frames into one pdf document, please follow the steps below:

  1. Make sure that in your current canvas, there are only frames you want to export (alternatively move the odd frames to a separate Figma page)
  2. Organize your frames in horizontal order. – Figma combines pages in document starting from the frames on the left to the frames on the right, and then moves to another row below and so on.

9. How to select only those objects that are fully inside the selection area?

As of September 2023, Figma does not have a feature similar to the one in Sketch where you can hold the "Command" and "Option" buttons to select only those objects that are fully within a selection area. As the option allows to quickly select frames and object that are very close to each other, we would love to see this functionality added in the future. Let's stay tuned for updates and hope that Figma's development team considers this valuable feature for the Figma community soon.
